How will you make an impact?
Lead the Materials and Purchasing function to ensure material supply meets demand, optimize overall purchasing costs, support business growth initiatives, and develop strategic sourcing and supply chain solutions. Drive operational excellence through supplier management, inventory optimization, cost reduction initiatives, and team development while supporting customer satisfaction and business objectives.
What will you do?
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, interview, and hire Purchasing Supervisors and Planner/Buyers.
- Partner with recruiters to identify qualified candidates for Materials and Purchasing roles.
- Coach team members through the hiring and onboarding process.
- Monitor turnover trends and implement retention initiatives.
- Identify individual and team development needs and create training plans.
- Develop and maintain training curricula for the Materials organization.
- Coach and mentor Materials staff to deliver exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Develop and manage succession planning activities for the Materials function.
- Establish clear goals, objectives, and performance expectations for team members.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
- Conduct performance evaluations professionally and on schedule.
- Drive accountability and continuous improvement against operational metrics and business objectives.
- Coordinate and lead teams through changing priorities and critical business situations.
- Ensure recognition and reward programs are applied fairly and consistently.
Communication
- Facilitate regular team meetings and communication forums.
- Promote the exchange of ideas, information, and best practices within the department.
- Communicate effectively through clear verbal and written messaging.
- Encourage employee engagement and feedback.
- Adapt communication styles to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
Business & Functional Management
- Understand and support campus and organizational strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement Materials strategies aligned with business goals.
- Support Workcell business strategies through effective materials management.
- Provide regular updates to Business Unit Managers, Workcell Managers, and Operations leadership.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate waste, and reduce costs.
- Utilize cost management tools to monitor departmental expenses and identify trends.
- Provide cost analysis and improvement recommendations to stakeholders.
- Develop accurate departmental forecasts and planning assumptions.
- Analyze forecast accuracy and historical trends to improve planning effectiveness.
Materials & Supply Chain Management
- Ensure operational execution aligns with Jabil Supply Chain strategies.
- Support the development and implementation of Supply Chain initiatives and systems.
- Ensure material supply is aligned with customer demand and production requirements.
- Partner with Materials Planners to establish realistic Master Production Schedule (MPS) commitments.
- Maintain disciplined planning processes to ensure material availability while minimizing liability and excess inventory.
- Monitor and resolve material shortages, non-conforming inventory, excess stock, and obsolete materials.
- Drive reductions in overall material costs, including component pricing, freight, inventory carrying costs, and administrative expenses.
- Optimize Material Price Variance (MPV) through strategic sourcing and cost management initiatives.
- Support standard costing activities through accurate component cost projections.
- Ensure customer quotations are competitive while maximizing favorable MPV opportunities.
- Ensure purchase orders are executed according to negotiated pricing, terms, and conditions.
- Partner with Commodity Managers and Buyers to support strategic sourcing objectives.
- Ensure suppliers are selected based on cost, quality, delivery, and overall business value.
- Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers.
- Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position.
- Comply with all procedures within the company security policy.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
How will you get here?
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of experience in Materials Management, Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Chain, Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience managing purchasing, planning, inventory management, or supply chain operations in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience developing and implementing materials and procurement strategies preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of Materials Management, Purchasing, Supply Chain, and Inventory Control principles.
- Understanding of MRP, ERP, and Master Production Scheduling (MPS) processes.
- Knowledge of supplier management, sourcing, procurement, and contract execution.
- Ability to develop and execute strategic supply chain initiatives.
- Experience managing inventory levels to balance customer demand and operational efficiency.
- Strong leadership, coaching, team development, and succession planning skills.
- Ability to establish goals, measure performance, and drive accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Knowledge of standard costing, Material Price Variance (MPV), inventory valuation, and cost management principles.
- Ability to evaluate supplier performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Strong business acumen and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence employees, suppliers, customers, and leadership teams.
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office and business systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and
- deadlines.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations.
- Ability to calculate percentages, ratios, variances, and financial metrics.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.
- U.S. Citizenship required for site-specific security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- APICS Certification preferred.
- Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) Certification preferred.
- Experience leading Materials, Purchasing, Supply Chain, or Procurement teams within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and cost reduction programs.
- Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and supply chain optimization practices.
- Experience working with global suppliers and complex supply chains.
