JOB SUMMARY

The MES IT Manager leads Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software developers as part of a single execution engine spanning MES, Software Development Services, and Machine Connectivity. The role focuses on how MES software is built—driving engineering excellence through Test‑Driven Development (TDD) and AI‑augmented development to deliver predictable, high‑quality manufacturing solutions at scale.

This role owns the MES development operating model, embedding AI across the SDLC, enforcing TDD as the default quality strategy, and ensuring MES engineering teams consistently deliver production‑ready software aligned to manufacturing outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage MES software engineers delivering core manufacturing execution capabilities.

  • Align and contribute to the end‑to‑end MES development lifecycle, from requirements and design through test, release, and sustainment.

  • Ensure MES development aligns to the single pipeline model—from machine signals to business outcomes—working closely with SDS and connectivity teams

  • Establish TDD as the default development approach across all new MES features and services.

  • Ensure all MES code is developed with unit tests, automated regression, and CI‑integrated quality gates.

  • Track and improve engineering quality metrics such as code coverage, defect leakage, and production stability.

  • Drive continuous refactoring and technical debt reduction to improve long‑term maintainability.

  • Lead adoption of AI‑augmented development practices within MES teams:

    • AI‑assisted coding and refactoring

    • AI‑generated unit tests, mock data, and edge‑case scenarios

    • AI‑assisted debugging, root‑cause analysis, and code navigation

  • Define governance, standards, and success metrics for responsible AI use in MES development.

  • Partner with AI DevEx and SDE teams to embed proven AI tooling and reusable capabilities across MES engineering workflows

  • Influence and enforce MES engineering standards, including architecture, modularity, testability, and security.

  • Guide development teams through modernization of legacy MES components using TDD and AI‑assisted refactoring.

  • Ensure development practices support predictable delivery, fewer production defects, and faster cycle times.

  • Build, mentor, and retain high‑performing MES developers, from junior engineers to technical leads.

  • Develop engineers into AI‑ready developers by embedding AI literacy and hands‑on usage into daily work.

  • Foster a culture of engineering ownership, quality, learning, and accountability across global teams

  • Define, develop and implement a department strategy, which contributes to the business strategic direction

  • Develop and communicate an understanding of the business strategy as it pertains to other IT Departments.

  • Understand and communicate business strategy and develop application & technical infrastructure to support this strategy

  • Management of Assets, Capital Costs, Prepare ROI related documentation and Business Cases.

  • Prepare and Analyze financial data and results.

  • Create action plans as needed.

  • Responsibility for financial forecasting and cost management of group IT function.

  • Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).

  • Drive metrics management and performance of IT support and services with a focus on a data driven continuous improvement approach.

  • Participate in the exchange of ideas and information across the global IT organization to help drive standardization and sharing of best practice initiatives.

  • Collaborate with, and understand the needs of internal/external customers from a business process and product perspective to help drive key IT solutions for driving operational efficiencies

  • Accountability for the accurate and timely delivery of monthly reporting to the business regarding IT service performance, including service trends, improvement activity and SLA attainment.

  • To support the incident management process by clearly articulating business impact during for affected service(s) during major incidents and driving completion of corrective actions and problem management activities.

  • Drive awareness of change management activity for high category services ensuring that the business impact of change activity is understood and risks to business processing highlighted.

  • Coordination of work schedules, priorities, and performance management of IT personnel.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with constantly changing priorities and deadlines

  • Understand and embrace the global IT strategic direction

  • Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by superior.

  • Enforce and follow all procedures and policies within IT and the company.

  • Participate in internal audit programs and drive non conformance issues to conclusion.

  • Project Management as required

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

Experience

  • 8+ years in enterprise software development, including hands‑on people leadership

  • Proven experience managing MES or mission‑critical manufacturing systems

  • Demonstrated success implementing TDD in production enterprise systems

  • Experience scaling modern engineering practices across distributed teams

Technical Profile

  • Strong foundation in modern backend and frontend development, APIs, and CI/CD

  • Deep practical knowledge of automated testing frameworks and quality engineering

  • Hands‑on exposure to AI‑assisted development tools and their application within the SDLC

  • Manufacturing domain knowledge is strongly preferred but not mandatory
