JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Business Unit Manager would help lead both new and existing customer growth initiatives in concert with NyproMold's technology roadmap. This individual will be capable of and responsible for promoting NyproMold's value-added solutions and supporting complex plastic injection mold manufacturing programs from concept through production while supporting P&L Growth.

This role serves as the primary technical and commercial bridge between the customer, engineering, program management, mold design, mold build, metrology, sampling and operations teams. They will be the technical leader, partnering with strategic customers to identify opportunities, and align NyproMold's capabilities with future business needs.

This role requires deep injection mold design and mold manufacturing knowledge, strong program discipline, and the ability to translate customer product requirements into manufacturable, high-performing molds, and profitable solutions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with customer engineering teams, leading technical reviews with customers, developing part or mold split concepts to support proposals or communication with engineering, supporting and growing new business opportunities, resolving product and commercial escalations and ensuring flawless execution across all customer facing engagement,

Success in this role requires the ability to bridge technology, operations, and commercial strategy while building strong customer relationships and identifying opportunities that support both customer success and NyproMold's long-term growth objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand customer product requirements, technology roadmaps, quality expectations, launch timing, and business objectives, and align them with NyproMold’s mold-making capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customer engineering, product development, sourcing, operations, and technical leadership teams.
  • Lead early supplier involvement and DFM activities, including review of part data, drawings, 3D models, specifications, tolerances, critical dimensions, cosmetic requirements, resin/shrinkage assumptions, and manufacturability risks.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex plastic injection mold programs from concept development through product validation.
  • Support mold concept development, including cavitation, parting line strategy, gating, runner systems, ejection, cooling, venting, mold sizing, and molding machine requirements.
  • Support Customer mold design reviews to ensure they meet customer requirements for part quality, cycle time, reliability, mold life, maintenance, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, program management, toolroom, manufacturing, quality, metrology, supply chain, operations to support customer and NM Growth.
  • Manage multiple opportunities while maintaining visibility to scope, schedule, cost, technical risk, quality, customer commitments, and launch readiness.
  • Communicate program status, technical risks, schedule concerns, customer issues, and recovery plans to internal leadership and customer stakeholders.
  • Act as an escalation point for technical, schedule, quality, scope, and customer-related issues when they arise.
  • Support troubleshooting during mold build, mold trials, sampling, and production launch, including dimensional issues, part defects, steel conditions, shutoff concerns, ejection issues, cooling issues, cycle-time concerns, and mold reliability problems.
  • Review RFQs, customer specifications, part data, mold standards, validation requirements, and launch timing to identify technical, commercial, and execution risks.
  • Support development of mold concepts, statements of work, technical proposals, tooling quotations, project schedules, financial assumptions, and customer presentations.
  • Partner Estimating, engineering, program management, and operations to develop profitable, executable, and technically sound business proposals.
  • Monitor project financial performance, cost trends, change requests, and value-improvement opportunities to support Customer growth and protect NM’s P&L.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned from legacy Builds, Repeats, Refurbishments,  
  • Drive accountability, urgency, clear communication, follow-up, and disciplined execution across assigned programs.
  • Represent NyproMold professionally in customer meetings, technical presentations, escalation reviews, and senior-level discussions.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Excellent communication and technical skills (i.e. engineering, R & D, product design/development) to align NyproMold with customer’s technology road map

Strong technical knowledge of plastic injection mold design, mold manufacturing, and injection molding processes.

Deep understanding of moldability, DFM, part design requirements, resin/shrinkage behavior, critical dimensions, surface finish requirements, and customer product specifications.

Strong knowledge of mold construction, - gating, runner systems, hot runner systems, cooling circuits, venting, ejection methods, side actions, lifters, shutoffs, mold steels, and mold mechanical systems.

Ability to read, interpret, and challenge 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, GD&T, customer specifications, mold standards, and technical requirements.

Strong understanding of mold design deliverables, including concept layouts, preliminary designs, BOMs, 3D stack, final mold design releases, manufacturing release packages, and design checklists.

Strong troubleshooting knowledge related to mold trials, sampling, dimensional issues, part defects, ejection issues, cooling issues, cycle-time concerns, steel conditions, shutoffs, and mold reliability.

Strong customer-facing technical communication skills, including the ability to present mold concepts, technical risks, program status, and corrective action plans to customer engineering and leadership teams.

Financial and commercial understanding, including quoting, project budgets, cost tracking, change management, value improvement, and proposal development.

Strong customer service mindset with the ability to build trust, manage expectations, and resolve technical or program-related escalations.

Proficient computer skills, including spreadsheets, presentations, project tracking tools, CAD to manipulate designs, and standard business applications.

Ability to manage multiple complex programs simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail, urgency, quality, cost, and customer commitments.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

·         Bachelor's Degree required.
·         Degree in Engineering preferred.
·         Ten (10) years minimum work-related experience required, preferably in Engineering - Mold Design/Manufacturing - (i.e. R & D, product
design/development, etc.).

·         Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Proficiency with Pro-e, Solidworks, Microsoft- PowerPoint, Excel, Word

·         Regular business hours. Some additional hours may be required.
·         Travel requirements: Domestic and International, up to 25%.
·         Climate controlled office environment during normal business hours.

The pay range for this role is $127,100 - $228,700. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
