Jabil is hiring a Principal Automation Project Engineer for our Healthcare sector. This person can be located anywhere in the US.

How will you make an impact?

As a seasoned engineering professional, you will take on a pivotal role as Principal Automation Project Engineer, leveraging your deep expertise in high-speed assembly automation to shape the future of advanced manufacturing. You will lead the full lifecycle of automation projects—from defining technical requirements and developing automation concepts, to overseeing installation and ensuring seamless transitions to production. Your leadership will extend to the equipment quoting process, where you will create preliminary concepts, layouts, and technical documentation to support strategic decision-making.

As a Subject Matter Expert in Assembly Automation, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, influencing part design and ensuring alignment with automation goals. Your insights will drive efficiency, innovation, and reliability across production systems. What will you do?

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the development of automated assembly and test systems.

  • Act as a virtual and onsite liaison for automation development best practices with customers and facilities.

  • Interact directly with assembly and automation equipment suppliers.

  • Specify and/or purchase equipment, assembly tooling, and fixtures for new and existing processes.

  • Lead the development of URS and equipment specifications, including qualification of custom/vendor equipment for production use.

  • Guide and lead quoting of automation equipment.

  • Create and coordinate project teams to achieve agreed project outcomes.

  • Ensure seamless handover of automation projects to receiving site teams.

  • Support sites with engineering hiring and technical troubleshooting.

  • Identify and coordinate automation training opportunities for yourself and colleagues.

  • Actively research new technologies, automation developments, and external suppliers.

  • Support sites on automation escalations and improvement projects (Downtime, Scrap, OEE) during engineering transfer and ramp-up.

  • Collaborate on RFQs, DFMs, design reviews, product design, and automation equipment design as part of holistic solutions.

  • Drive company values and promote continuous improvement.

  • Provide support to other sites through a global Q&A process platform.

  • Direct manufacturing in troubleshooting, upgrades, retrofits, set-ups, and methods development.

  • Support product development meetings and recommend product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly.

  • Apply Lean Six Sigma tools, projects, and processes to assigned engineering projects.

  • Lead large, complex projects with broad organizational impact.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and national regulatory requirements, codes, and controls.

  • Support all company safety and quality program initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives.

How will you get here?

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military or technical training and experience.

  • At least 12 years of experience in automation equipment development and installation OR an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

  • Knowledge and experience of ISO 13485 required.

  • Healthcare experience with the assembly of medical devices is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Complex understanding of processes and manufacturing techniques.

  • Knowledge of metal welding, including laser and resistance.

  • Experience in engineering within a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Systems is a plus.

  • Subject Matter Expert in applicable engineering theories, design principles, practices, and design evaluation techniques.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and email.

The pay range for this role is $126,100 - $227,000. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity. The anticipated close date of this job requisition is: February 28, 2026.

As part of the total rewards package, this position is eligible for a short-term incentive based on performance. In addition, Jabil offers benefits to enhance your health, wealth, and resilient self.
