Job Summary:

The SMT Assistant Equipment Engineer is responsible for the setup, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) equipment used in the assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports high-quality production by performing both preventive and corrective maintenance, machine calibrations, and technical support across the SMT production lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and set up SMT machines including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, AOI, and SPI systems.

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance as per OEM guidelines to reduce unexpected equipment failures.

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software systems.

  • Assist in machine calibration to ensure consistent placement accuracy and solder quality.

  • Support production teams by quickly resolving machine stoppages and minimizing line downtime.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and machine performance metrics.

  • Collaborate with process engineers to support continuous improvement efforts and root cause analysis of equipment-related defects.

  • Support the integration of new equipment, software updates, and tooling for new product introductions (NPI).

  • Follow all safety protocols and ESD procedures in the handling and repair of equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, diploma, or certification in Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with SMT manufacturing equipment in a production environment.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and documentation practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with SMT equipment from brands such as Fuji, DEK, etc

  • Working knowledge of AOI, SPI, and reflow profiling systems.

  • Basic understanding of machine communication interfaces and MES integration.

  • IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and calibration gauges.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-mix production environment.
