Jabil is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer who will directly contribute to the transformative growth in our Intelligent Infrastructure division by applying unique and innovative approaches to solving problems within our large-scale production environment.   The Mechanical Design Engineer for Test Fixtures plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and reliability of hardware products, contributing to the overall success of the manufacturing process and customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for contributing to the end-to-end architecture, definition, development and production deployment of production Test fixtures in our manufacturing regions.  You will also be responsible for interfacing with our customers, fixture vendors and internal teams from engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure fixture deliverables meet the rigorous standards of Jabil’s world-class manufacturing environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities:

  • A mechanical design engineer designs for Test Fixtures, designs, develops, and validates the Production fixtures
  • Proficient in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software to create designs and analyze performance.
  • Ability to use 3D Solidworks and AutoCad preferred.
  • Ability to perform stress calculations on designs and materials.
  • Ability to conceptualize and create new fixture designs  or revise existing ones 
  • Create documentation for fixture design and fabrication.
  • Test and validate prototypes to ensure design meets performance and cost requirements 
  • Analyze problems or deficiencies and develop solutions 
  • Create technical operation documentation and detailed documentation to track project development 
  • Work with other engineers, project managers, vendors, and contractors, Project management and leadership skills
  • Perform engineering design evaluations and conduct experiments to improve and innovate product designs. In-depth knowledge of industry design principles

                              MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of Pneumatic systems and PLC’s
  • Familiar with motor systems and Robotics.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, such as mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and fluid dynamics
  • Ability to drill, mill and modify various materials
  • Ability to 3D print or manufacture prototypes.
  • Proficiency in common design software, such as AutoCAD and 3D Solidworks

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 8 to 10 years of experience designing jigs and fixtures for a PCBA manufacturing process. Including but not limited to wave pallets, rework fixtures, pneumatically driven fixtures for FVT and ICT.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environments.
  • Domestic and/or International travel, up to 10%, may be required.
