SUMMARY

Continuously works to improve manufacturing and process engineering core competencies, develops and supports SMT and Through-Hole (TH) assembly processes, and provides engineering support during production and New Product Introductions (NPIs). Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies when selecting methods and techniques to achieve manufacturing, quality, and delivery objectives in an automotive environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manufacturing & Process Development

  • Develop, implement, and optimize SMT and Through-Hole (TH) assembly processes for low to high complexity products.
  • Lead and support New Product Introductions (NPIs) from prototype builds through production ramp-up and mass production.
  • Define and review process flows, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation to ensure robust and repeatable processes.
  • Perform DFM/DFA reviews in coordination with Product and Design Engineering.

Stencil Design & Soldering Processes

  • Lead the design, review, validation, and optimization of SMT stencils in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Support and optimize soldering processes including reflow, wave, and selective soldering.
  • Analyze solder defects and drive corrective actions to improve yield and quality.

Engineering Coordination

  • Coordinate activities across Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Test, and Production teams.
  • Act as a technical interface with customers and suppliers, particularly during NPIs and engineering changes.
  • Support engineering builds, pilot runs, and line readiness activities.

Automotive Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with automotive industry standards and customer requirements (e.g., IATF 16949, IPC standards).
  • Support PFMEA, Control Plans, process validation, and PPAP activities.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions using structured problem-solving methodologies.

Continuous Improvement & Production Support

  • Provide ongoing production support and troubleshooting for SMT and TH processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost, efficiency, and cycle time.
  • Support escalation and crisis situations affecting manufacturing performance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering required.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering within an automotive environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SMT and Through-Hole assembly processes.
  • Proven experience with stencil design and optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting NPIs and product launches.
  • Experience coordinating engineering activities across cross-functional teams.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation, customer specifications, and industry standards. Ability to write reports, engineering documentation, and procedures. Ability to effectively present technical information to engineers, managers, customers, and operators.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical and statistical concepts to manufacturing and process control, including yields, defect rates, percentages, ratios, and basic statistical analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define manufacturing and process problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and implement effective solutions. Ability to interpret technical drawings, process documentation, and engineering data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is frequently required to walk on the manufacturing floor and occasionally lift or carry equipment up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision and extensive use of computer monitors.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required for customer support, supplier engagement, training, and NPI support. Travel may be domestic or international.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primary workstation is located in the office area, with frequent presence on the manufacturing floor. The noise level ranges from low to moderate.
