Job Summary
The Recycling Technician operates, maintains, and troubleshoots recycling and waste processing equipment while ensuring materials are handled safely and efficiently. This role actively supports continuous improvement initiatives and contributes innovative ideas to enhance processes, productivity, and sustainability efforts.

Responsibilities

• Operate powered industrial equipment, including forklifts (PIT), to collect and transport waste and recycling materials throughout the facility.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on recycling and waste processing equipment.
• Complete preventive maintenance tasks and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Use hand tools and powered tools as needed to support equipment maintenance and waste processing operations.
• Process waste and recyclable materials according to established procedures, including material handling, weighing, compaction, and loading for shipment or disposal.
• Ensure waste and recycling activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
• Follow all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Comply with company security policies and established procedures.

Qualifications

• HS diploma required
• 1-3 years of experience in recycling, waste handling, warehouse operations, manufacturing, maintenance, or a related environment.
• Forklift experience preferred; ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment is a plus.
• Experience working with compactors, balers, recycling systems, or similar equipment preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to inspect equipment, identify issues, and support basic troubleshooting activities.
• Understanding of waste streams and recycling practices, including the handling of cardboard, wood, and general waste materials.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize daily tasks, and adapt to changing operational needs.
• Strong attention to safety, organization, and detail.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
• Self-motivated and proactive, with a willingness to take ownership of issues and drive solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in warehouse maintenance, industrial operations, recycling, or facilities support.
• Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical, electrical, or production equipment.
• Ability to diagnose equipment issues and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated track record of reliability, initiative, and contributing to a team-oriented environment.
